About Malika Tirolien
Ever the musical chameleon, the GeminiCrab project marks Malika Tirolien’s newest musical venture in addition to nearly a decade of being the lead singer of three-time GRAMMY-nominated supergroup Bokanté.
Their live showings at renowned festivals and venues such as WOMAD, North Sea Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scotts, Union Chapel, Factory International and The Jazz Cafe have helped establish the outfit as touring staples earning them critical praise from The Guardian, The
Telegraph, Jazzwise and The Arts Desk.
In addition to Tirolien’s extensive history with Bokanté, she is also an accomplished solo artist who’s collaborated with the likes of Jacob Collier and Snarky Puppy. ‘Sur La Voie Ensoleillée’, her debut solo album was released in 2014 and reached the Top 5 of Canada’s official R&B chart. Malika would follow it up with 2021’s ‘HIGHER’ which was praised by critics for its unique and innovative approach to soul, jazz and Hip-Hop, earning comparisons to Lauryn Hill and spawned standout tracks ‘GROW’ and ‘CHANGE YOUR LIFE’.
Outside of music, Tirolien is a children’s book author, releasing her first book ‘NTangu’ this year. A creative path that was bound to happen given her heritage as the granddaughter of the acclaimed Guadeloupean poet Guy Tirolien, a trailblazer in French-Caribbean literature.
