SASKATCHEWAN JAZZ FESTIVAL
For ten days to kick off each summer, the city of Saskatoon bursts into song as the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival plays host to hundreds of world class artists. Over 75,000 hungry music fans devour the sounds of jazz, blues, funk, pop, and world music each year, with a program that spans as many genres as it does continents.
The Saskatchewan Jazz Festival Inc. (the “SJF”) was incorporated in 1992 and is a non-profit organization and registered charity.It is governed by a board of directors, employs a permanent staff of three, and involves a significant number of community volunteers in its presentation of the festival.
This year, the SJF is actively recruiting volunteers to serve on our board of directors and contribute to the oversight of our vibrant, growing and dynamic organization.
ABOUT YOU
Though not an exhaustive list, the SJF is particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience and knowledge in one or more of the following:
- Human Resources
- Marketing and Communication
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
- Appreciation for Jazz Music
In addition to those areas, we strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences and are keen to consider a “Youth” candidate (18-30 years old) interested in developing governance and leadership skills.

- Long term strategic vision on how to develop the SJF organization and model

ABOUT THE COMMITMENT
SJF board members can serve for a maximum of 3 consecutive 3-year terms and, during those terms, may have the opportunity to serve as part of our executive.
Board meetings are held once a month and committee meetings as required. It is expected that directors (i) attend board meetings and contribute to one or two board committees, (ii) remain informed and think actively about SJF policies, programs and services, (iii) represent and advocate for the SJF’s best interests and (iv) commit to the principles of the pursuit of excellence and continual improvement.
During the festival, it is expected that SJF board members are present and visible with an eye towards continual improvement of the festival experience and enhancement of the festival’s relationship with our community and stakeholders.
