The Saskatchewan Jazz Festival Inc. is an international jazz festival that fosters, promotes and presents jazz music in its diverse forms to the people of Saskatchewan. The festival provides opportunities for the professional development of Saskatchewan musicians and a variety of educational experiences for the people of Saskatchewan.
The Festival believes in supporting young musicians by providing opportunities which will assist young musicians of all technical abilities. With the support of TD Canada Trust the Festival is proud to program the TD Canada Trust High School Jazz Intensive as an integral part of the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.
PROGRAM
Under the guidance of distinguished jazz educators, program participants will create and work toward a performance at the Broadway Theatre on Saturday, June 28th as part of the 22nd SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival Jazz Performance Series.
The program is restricted to high school aged musicians from grade 9 – 12.
What participants can expect:
- Challenging opportunities for students of all musical levels
- Program focusing on improvisation and creative musical exploration
- Increased attention on small ensemble sessions
- More one on one time between clinicians and participants.
- Full group sessions where all participants perform and learn together
- Jam sessions featuring clinicians and participants
- Increased focus on instrumental techniques, education, and appreciation
- Workshop session featuring special guest musicians
- Participants receive a Festival Pass. This pass will good for any concert during the Festival as long as the concert is not sold out 10 minutes prior to show start. (TCU Place, Casino Regina, Credit Union Centre, Mae Wilson Theatre excluded from Festival Pass)

What makes this experience particularly exciting and completely unique in our province is the opportunity for students to interact with touring musicians performing at the Festival. At least one touring musician will drop in on the program and conduct a workshop with the students. The students will also have the opportunity to be part of the audience at Festival concerts.
Is there a cost to participate and how do I apply?
Most of the costs of conducting the TD Canada Trust High School Jazz Intensive are borne by its generous sponsors. Only a small portion of the cost is charged to the participants.
All applicants to the program must submit an application and pay a non-refundable audition fee of $10.00. Upon acceptance, a registration fee of $50.00 per participant applies.
Students from outside Saskatoon are responsible for their own transportation, accommodations and meals.
